This emotional ride will bring you mixed tears
The movie, ‘Wonder’, is based on a New York Times bestselling novel by R.J. Palacio.
It tells the heartbreaking story of a 10-year-old boy trying to fit in school despite the stares and stigmas about his malformed face, after having gone through 27 surgeries to correct his birth defects.
The boy begins going to public school for the first time, entering the fifth grade, after being “protected” from the cruelties of the outside world.
Despite the difficulties of facing bullies, battling self-esteem issues and being suspicious of all who try to approach him, the brave young boy learns to overcome fears, embrace his uniqueness, and use his sense of humor to cope with some of his life’s troubling issues.
The beautiful, emotional movie bears a universal theme – it’s not just about facial deformities – it’s about learning to cope with being different in a world which isn’t always so welcoming.
Most importantly, it’s about finding perfection in imperfection – and learning to open your heart and accept others who are different.
This is a wonderful film to teach children positive values.
