Simone Manuel – First African American to Win Olympic Gold Medal in Swimming

Another Awesome Girly Warrior to Top Our List!

Simone Manuel is an American swimmer who specializes in sprint freestyle. The 20-year-old just won two gold and two silver medals at the Rio Olympics!

The tremendous achievement symbolizes a double triumph because not only did Simone Manuel bring pride to her country – she also made history by becoming the first African American to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming.

Take a look at her achievement:

While more people have been familiar so far with the other African American Olympic superstar Simone Biles, Simone Manuel has officially entered the international spotlight, and she is inspiring millions.

LeBron James praised the two Simones on Instagram for inspiring “young black girls” like his daughter, who watched the competitions with him.

These athletes are competing out of passion and enjoyment – but without even planning so, their success has automatically become a huge inspiration for women in general and African American women in particular. Their victories prove that gender and race are in no way limitation on even the most extravagant of dreams.

We are so proud of these young ladies, and have our eyes open to witness many more inspiring athletes.
